The need for improved public transport is exacerbated by forecast population growth from 1.3 million in 2019 to 3 million in 2030. There is no formalized bus system. Current public transport flows on Ahmadu Bello Way in central Kaduna are estimated at 7,500 passengers per hour per direction.

Capital cost of $99million. Improved streetlighting (approximately $60k/km) and pedestrian bridges (approximately $1m/bridge) at key stations have not been included in the cost estimate. The recommended scenario also excludes widening of Kaduna River Bridge (approximately $8m for 2 additional lanes )
